Professor Richard S Stubbs MD, FRCS, FRACS
Managing Director / Investigator

Richard Stubbs is a recently retired academic surgeon who undertook surgical training in the UK and US. In 1991 he established the Wakefield Gastroenterology Centre where he and colleagues developed a National referral centre for gastrointestinal diseases and an active private Research Institute. He developed a particular reputation in the fields of liver surgery and obesity surgery, and for over 20 years led an active basic science research team in the Wakefield Biomedical Research Unit investigating the fundamental cause of insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes, and the basis of metastasis in colorectal cancer. Richard has been a shareholder in P3 Research since 2005 and became Managing Director in 2010. During this time he has grown the company from its previous two sites, located in Wellington and Tauranga, to its present seven sites following the addition of Hawke’s Bay (2015), Kapiti (2020), Palmerston North (2021), Lower Hutt (2022) and Dunedin (2023). He has been an active promoter of NZ as a destination for clinical trials and was President of the NZ Association of Clinical Research (NZACRes) from 2016 – 2019.

Dr Dean Quinn
Medical Director
Manager Wellington Unit / Investigator

Dean graduated from the University of Otago in 1993 and worked in general, cardiac, endocrinology and rehabilitation medicine prior to joining P3 Wellington in 2004. Dean was previously a member of the Wellington Asthma Research Group where he took part in a number of respiratory trials. Dean was appointed Unit Manager of the P3 Wellington site in May 2005, where he has been Principal Investigator for over 50 clinical trials. In addition to his particular interest in asthma and COPD he has extensive experience of Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials across a wide range of therapeutic areas.

Katie Kennett
Operations Manager
Manager Tauranga Unit / Study Coordinator

Katie is a registered nurse who has been involved in clinical research for over 25 years. Prior to joining P3 Research Katie was manager of the Research Department of Tauranga Urology Research and was instrumental in establishing that unit as an internationally recognised facility. Katie joined P3 Research in March 2006, soon after the Tauranga site was established, as Unit Manager, and over this time has seen P3 develop expertise/experience in a wide range of therapeutic areas.

Lele Ma’auga
Administration Services Manager

Lele has been the PA/Practice Manager to Richard Stubbs in his role as Director of the Wakefield Clinic since 2007, and assumed a key role in the administration, HR and marketing activities of P3 Research in 2013 soon after Richard Stubbs took on the role of Managing Director of P3 Research.  She has a thorough knowledge and understanding of office administration, IT systems and the medical and pharmaceutical world.

Crawford Davidson
Manager Hawkes Bay Unit  / Study Coordinator

Crawford graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Following graduation Crawford was employed at a dedicated Phase I clinical trial research unit in London with responsibilities in Study Coordination and Staff Training. He then spent two years as a Project Manager on later phase clinical trials.

Crawford joined P3 Research in 2015 as a Study Coordinator during the establishment of the Hawke’s Bay P3 branch. He became Laboratory Manager for the Hawke’s Bay branch in 2017 and was subsequently appointed Acting Unit Manger in 2022. He has 15 years working in the clinical trial industry across multiple phases of research.

Diana (Dee) Hunter
Manager Palmerston North Unit / Study Coordinator

Dee is a Registered Nurse with 10 years’ experience working within the Clinical Trials setting and joins the P3 team as Unit Manager of the Palmerston North site.  Dee returned to New Zealand in 2013 as Nurse Lead/Manager of the local DHB Cancer Clinical Trials Unit.  Prior to this Dee spent a decade nursing abroad; across several Australian states and the UK in a variety of specialties.

Carla McInnes
Manager Lower Hutt Unit / Study Coordinator

Carla returned to P3 Research in 2022, having worked previously as a Study Coordinator at P3 Wellington. She is a NZ registered nursing professional with 25 years experience across a broad range of clinical, operational and management roles within Phase I/II and III clinical drug development and public health care sector. Previously Carla worked for Quintiles (now IQVIA) in the UK for 13 years in their London 75 bed Phase I unit, including as the Nursing Director, and recently 6 years working at Medical Research Institute NZ (MRINZ) as a Senior Quality Manager.

Marie-Michelle Sullivan
Manager Dunedin Unit / Study Coordinator

Marie-Michelle joined the P3 team in November 2022 as a Manager / Study Co-ordinator at our Dunedin Unit. Marie-Michelle comes with many years of experience as a clinical research administrator, having worked in this area in her native Canada and then in New Zealand. She emigrated to New Zealand in 1996 and has built an enviable reputation in facilitating research within hospital and academic milieu. She is well known for her enthusiasm and professionalism and has built a network of contacts around Dunedin, Otago and Southland. We are very proud to have her on board at our seventh P3 site in Dunedin that opened in January 2023.

Sonja Dreyer
Manager Kapiti Unit / Study Coordinator

Sonja joined our team as a Study Coordinator at P3 Kapiti in late 2021. With a Bachelor’s in Science from the University of Stellenbosch and a Bachelor of Nursing from Massey University, she brings a wealth of knowledge to our team. As a registered nurse, Sonja is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care. Her experience in quality management and leadership strengthens our research efforts and ensures smooth operations. Sonja’s passion for improving healthcare outcomes shines through in her work at P3 Kapiti.

Bo Liu
Finance Officer

Bo holds a Bachelor of Science and Engineering degree from China and a Master of Accounting degree from University of Hawaii, USA.  Since obtaining her Accounting degree in 2006 she held a number of accounting positions in Hawaii and New Zealand, before joining the Wellington office of P3 Research in early 2012 as our Finance Officer. She works closely with the Managing Director on all financial matters for the Company.
