Description

Alopecia areata is a common but often misunderstood condition that causes hair loss. It's an autoimmune disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, leading to hair falling out in small, usually round patches on the scalp or other parts of the body. This can be distressing for those affected because it can happen suddenly and affect their appearance. While not physically harmful, it can have a significant impact on a person's self-esteem and quality of life.

Currently, there's no approved systemic treatment for people with severe hair loss (alopecia areata), and there's a significant need for more options for both teenagers and adults. An investigational medication has been developed, which could potentially help treat severe hair loss in both age groups. This investigational medication has been approved for various other conditions and is being studied for additional immune-related diseases, including alopecia areata.

What to expect

This clinical trial aims to determine how well two different doses of the investigational medication (a tablet taken by mouth once a day) works in treating the symptoms of severe hair loss in both adults and, in some places, teenagers. This clinical research is designed to find out if the investigational medication is effective, safe, and easy for people to tolerate when compared to a placebo (a dummy pill with no active ingredient).
