Eligibility Criteria

You may qualify for this study if you:

  • Are aged 18 years or older
  • Diagnosed with, or may have, mixed hyperlipidemia
  • Have high cholesterol and triglycerides OR non-HDL cholesterol
  • Are willing to maintain stable medications and diet

Other criteria will apply.

Description

Mixed hyperlipidaemia means having high cholesterol and high triglycerides, both of which increase the risk of heart disease. Standard treatments in New Zealand include lifestyle changes, statins, fibrates, omega-3 fatty acids, and dietary modification.

Despite current treatments, many people continue to have elevated lipid levels. There is a need for better treatments and medications for people with high cholesterol and high triglycerides.

This studies investigational drug is a new RNA interference (RNAi) administered as subcutaneous injection designed to lower both:

  • PCSK9 – a protein that increases LDL cholesterol
  • APOC3 – a protein that increases triglycerides

It aims to work by reducing the production of these proteins in the liver, which may help lower cholesterol and triglycerides.

What to expect

If you take part in this study, you will first meet with a study doctor to confirm whether the study is suitable for you.

If eligible you will receive either the investigational drug or a placebo (looks like the investigational medicine but contains no active ingredient) via subcutaneous injection. About 75% of participants will receive the active study drug and 25% will receive the placebo.

You will attend regular clinic visits for health assessments, including physical measurements, blood tests, and general health check-ups. Your safety and wellbeing will be closely monitored by our experienced clinical team throughout the study.
