Inherited High Cholesterol Studies Auckland
Auckland
We are inviting adults with inherited high cholesterol (heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia) to consider participation in a clinical research study. This inherited condition causes high levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol.
Researchers are studying an investigational gene-editing medicine for this condition by examining how the body responds to it.
Description
What to expect
Ages
18-65 years
Duration
The study will last approximately two years and will involve approximately 18 clinic visits.
Compensation
Participants will be paid for time and study-related costs.
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify for this study if you:
• Are aged 18 to 65 years
• Have a diagnosis of heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (Inherited high cholesterol))
• Have been taking at least two approved cholesterol-lowering medicines at stable doses for three months or longer
Other eligibility criteria will apply. Our study team will be able to assess whether this study is suitable for you.
Locations
Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia, often called HeFH, is an inherited condition that causes high levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol from birth. High LDL cholesterol levels can increase the risk of major cardiovascular events such as strokes or heart attacks. People with HeFH may continue to have high cholesterol even while taking cholesterol-lowering medicines.
This clinical research study will evaluate an investigational gene-editing medicine. The study aims to learn how the body processes it and how cholesterol levels change after it is given.
The study will last approximately two years. Participants will receive one intravenous infusion into a vein and remain at an inpatient facility for at least 24 hours for observation. Medicines will be given before the infusion to reduce the chance of an infusion reaction.
Participation may also involve:
Participation is voluntary. A member of the study team can explain the study, answer questions and assess whether it may be suitable for you.
