Are you or your child (aged 12 months and above) currently experiencing covid/flu like symptoms such as a fever, cough, headache or sore throat?

Momentum Clinical Research are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the accuracy of a new rapid molecular test for diagnosing COVID-19, Influenza A, Influenza B, and RSV. If you or your child are experiencing symptoms of a respiratory infection, you or your child may be eligible to participate.

While there is no direct health benefit to you or your child, participation will help advance the development of rapid diagnostic tests for respiratory viruses. This could lead to faster, more accurate diagnoses and better patient management in the future.

Eligibility Criteria

You or your child may qualify for this study if:

Aged 12 months and above

Are experiencing one or more respiratory symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, fatigue, loss of taste/smell, congestion, shortness of breath, sore throat, body aches, or headache)

Have not received an investigational drug or nasal vaccine in the past 30 days

Have not used any anti-virals in the last 30 days

Other criteria will apply.

Description

Respiratory tract infections, including COVID-19, Influenza, and RSV, pose a significant public health burden due to their high transmissibility and potential to cause serious illness across all age groups. These infections often present with similar symptoms, such as fever, cough, fatigue, and congestion, making it difficult for healthcare providers to quickly determine the exact cause of illness.

Accurate and timely diagnosis is important to help guide appropriate care, reduce unnecessary treatments, and support better patient outcomes. While existing diagnostic methods are available, there remains a need for rapid, reliable tests that can detect and differentiate between multiple respiratory viruses at the point of care.

This study is evaluating a new rapid diagnostic test designed to detect and distinguish between COVID-19, Influenza A, Influenza B, and RSV from a single sample. The test uses advanced molecular technology to identify viruses with a high level of accuracy.

The aim of the study is to understand how well this test performs compared to standard laboratory tests. By doing this, researchers hope to support the development of faster, more reliable testing that can be used at the point of care.

What to expect

Participation involves a single clinic visit lasting about 60 minutes. Study staff will collect up to two anterior nasal swabs and one nasopharyngeal swab (deeper inside the nose, near the throat) to be tested with the investigational rapid test and standard laboratory methods.

No blood draws or medications are involved.
