We are looking for adults aged 18 and over who are overweight or living with obesity and have Type 2 diabetes to take part in this clinical research study.

About the Condition
Obesity and Type 2 diabetes often occur together and can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health conditions. Healthy eating, physical activity, and medications can help manage these conditions, but many people continue to struggle with weight and blood sugar control.
Current treatments available in New Zealand include metformin and other oral diabetes medications, GLP-1 receptor agonists, SGLT-2 inhibitors, and lifestyle-based approaches. This study is testing whether a new investigational medication may offer another option in the future.
About the Investigational Medication
The investigational medication is a dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist, similar to newer injectable diabetes and weight-management medications available overseas. It acts on hormones that help:
About The Study
Taking part in the study involves firstly meeting with the research Doctor to find out more about your health and to see if the study is right for you. If you wish to take part and are eligible, we would like to see you for 15 clinic visits and 7 virtual visits over 84 weeks. During visits, we conduct health checks that may include physical examinations and blood tests. We would like to ask you questions about your health and your experience taking the study medication throughout the study.

You would take the potential new medication or a placebo (looks like the investigational medicine but contains no active medication). 29% of participants will receive a placebo, meanwhile 71% will receive the study drug.
The study medication is given once weekly as a small injection under the skin (abdomen). Participants self-inject after training.
