Shingles ZOSTER Vaccine Study

Kapiti

Are you 70 years or older and want to protect your health?

You may be eligible to join a clinical research study testing a new investigational vaccine for shingles (herpes zoster). The study is evaluating the tolerability and safety of the investigational vaccine and whether it can trigger an immune response.

By taking part, you may gain early access to potential new vaccine options, receive regular health checks, and contribute to medical research that could benefit thousands of people in the future.

Description

Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is a painful skin rash that may lead to complications such as long-lasting nerve pain, known as post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). It is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox – and it can reactivate later in life.

People 70 years of age and older are at higher risk for shingles and its complications. Although there is an approved vaccine, researchers are working to develop potential new options that may improve protection and reduce side effects.

This study is evaluating an investigational vaccine combining a viral protein with an immune-stimulating ingredient. Researchers are comparing the investigational vaccine to Shingrix (an existing and approved shingles vaccine) to see:

-          How safe it is

-          How well it stimulates the immune system

-          Whether it helps prevent shingles and associated complications (i.e., PHN) in older adults

What to expect

Participants will be randomly assigned to receive:

-          The investigational vaccine

-          Shingrix (an approved shingles vaccine)

You will receive two vaccine doses and return for follow-up visits over the next year. The vaccine will be administered as an intramuscular injection.

After each vaccination, you’ll be given a symptom diary, a thermometer, and a small ruler. For 7 days after each dose, you will be asked to record any symptoms or reactions, such as redness or swelling at the injection site, fever, or general discomfort.

Our trained medical study team will closely monitor your health, track side effects, and take blood samples to measure immune response.

Why join this clinical research study?

- Gain early access to new potential vaccines at no cost

- Contribute to research that may benefit others like you

-Receive health checks and advice from our professional medical team
