Paul Hamilton

Dr Paul Hamilton is an experienced clinical research physician and pharmacologist with a substantial track record across early‑phase drug development. Over more than a decade in the field, he has served as Principal Investigator on 50 early‑phase trials and Co‑Investigator on more than 350 Phase I–III studies, encompassing First‑in‑Human, drug–drug interaction, bioavailability, biosimilar equivalence, and device studies across both healthy volunteer and patient populations.

As Early Phase Clinical Director, Paul oversees the delivery of complex Phase I–II programs, bringing extensive experience in feasibility assessment, regulatory and ethics submission, protocol development, pharmacovigilance oversight, and multidisciplinary team leadership. He has also contributed to New Zealand’s research governance as a Clinical Reviewer on the Health Research Council’s Standing Committee on Therapeutic Trials (SCOTT).

Paul’s therapeutic expertise spans clinical pharmacology, viral hepatology, metabolic disease, nephrology, oncology, and advanced gene‑editing modalities including siRNA, LNA, and CRISPR‑Cas9, reflecting a broad scientific foundation and deep familiarity with modern investigational therapeutics.

He is recognised for strengthening site capability, driving clinical quality, and supporting strategic planning across early‑phase operations. His leadership includes workforce development, medical oversight of trial documentation, cross‑trial safety review, and collaboration with CROs, sponsors, ethics committees, and regulatory bodies.

With dual degrees in physiology, pharmacology, and medicine, a postgraduate diploma in clinical research, extensive GCP and safety training, and authorship in peer‑reviewed journals, Paul combines scientific depth with operational excellence—positioning him as a trusted leader in the international early‑phase clinical research community.
