Vaccines

Here at Momentum Clinical Research we have the capability to conduct large vaccine trials for a wide range of infectious and non-infectious conditions across our 14 sites spread throughout New Zealand and Australia. Recent vaccine trials have included evaluating the safety and efficacy of COVID-19, influenza, RSV and combined vaccines.

Overview

Vaccines are designed to stimulate and teach the immune system to recognise and fight harmful agents, offering protection against a wide range of conditions. They are traditionally developed for two main categories:

Vaccines for infectious diseases target pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and parasites that cause illnesses. The primary goal of vaccines in this category is to prevent outbreaks, reduce the spread of infection, and minimise the severity of illness by enabling the immune system to respond quickly when exposed to the pathogen.

Treatment progress

Recent advancements in medical science have expanded the use of vaccines beyond infectious diseases, aiming at conditions that are non-infectious in nature. These include cancer, allergies, autoimmune disorders and chronic diseases. Vaccines work by teaching the immune system to recognise specific proteins, toxins, or antigens associated with these conditions, enabling the body to mount a faster and stronger response if it encounters the harmful agent in the future.

Our history

Momentum Clinical Research have made significant contributions to the development of new vaccines by conducting a wide range of clinical trials across infectious diseases and emerging medical needs. We have conducted trials for COVID-19 vaccines, assessing both efficacy and safety, as well as participating in global studies on influenza, HPV, and other vaccines designed to prevent viral and bacterial infections.

Previous studies

Our recent vaccine research studies have included:

  •  A clinical research study that seeks to assess the effectiveness of a combined COVID-19 and Flu vaccination delivered in a single vaccine.
  • Testing an experimental combined vaccine which may provide protection against the five strains of meningococcal bacteria that can cause meningococcal disease.
  • A clinical study testing a new vaccine which may prevent RSV infection in adults suffering from chronic illnesses.
